Enrolling - Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques

Those with a five-year high school diploma or other qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable may be admitted to the Bachelor of Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques.

Admission to the Bachelor's degree program has a restricted access and involves an entrance exam consisting of a nationally-scheduled multiple-choice test.

The degree program is professionalizing, which means that the final exam also provides qualification for the profession of Imaging and Radiotherapy Technician.

The objective, and thus the subjects of study, is to adequately prepare for the world of work.

Moreover, the role of this figure is characterized by constant transformation, an element that adds a special appeal to this profession.

The objective of the Course is to provide the following skills:

- adequate preparation in the basic disciplines, such as to enable the best understanding of the most relevant elements underlying the physiological and pathological processes that develop in human beings;
- extensive knowledge of the equipment used;
- managing the technical-diagnostic procedures of acquisition, processing, transmission and storage of digital biomedical images according to scientific evidence and guidelines in the various fields of operation;
- manage dosimetric and statistical data also for the purpose of drafting technical and scientific reports;
- ability to evaluate in advance the technical justification respecting the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle in order to ensure the protection of patients, exposed workers, the public and the territory;
- ability to use first aid techniques in case of emergency;
- participate in quality assessment and review in their work areas;
- knowledge of ethical, deontological, security and confidentiality (privacy) issues related to the practice of the profession;
- aptitude for teamwork, operating with defined degrees of autonomy or in collaboration with other figures, to ensure the optimal functioning of the Service and contribute to the solution of organizational problems;
- perform their role considering patient safety and clinical risk management

Graduates perform interventions for physical or dosimetric protection, participate in the planning and organization of work within the framework of the facility in which they work, in accordance with their competencies.
In addition, they manage the provision of services in direct collaboration with Specialist Doctors in Radiodiagnostics, with the figure of the Nuclear Physician, Radiation Physician and Health Physicist, according to diagnostic and therapeutic protocols defined in advance.

The work is characterized by close cooperation with the above-mentioned figures and by daily human relations with patients.
