Filter semester Medicine and Dentistry - A.A. 2026/27

As stipulated in Articles 15 and 16 and Annex 1 of Ministerial Decree no. 941/2026, if you are enrolled in the Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, or Veterinary Medicine degree programs (Classes LM-41, LM-46, and LM-42)—or a related program—and have already attended one or more courses corresponding to those of the "filter semester" (or attended the filter semester courses in a previous year), you may request an exemption from attending classes for the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Biochemical Preparatory Studies, and Physics.

If you are coming from the "filter semester," a related degree program, or a degree program in classes LM-41 or LM-46 at the University of Brescia and wish to request an exemption from attendance requirements, you must:

1.            complete the relevant section on the Universitaly portal;

2.            complete the required declarations during the enrollment finalization process on the Esse3 portal;

No additional documentation needs to be uploaded.

If you are coming from the "filter semester," a related degree program, or a degree program in classes LM-41, LM-46, or LM-42 at other universities and wish to request an exemption from attendance requirements, you must:

1.            complete the relevant section on the Universitaly portal;

2.            complete the required declarations during the enrollment finalization process on the Esse3 portal;

3.            upload appropriate documentation proving your attendance at the previous degree program or "filter semester."

The documentation must be uploaded to the “Career Attachments” section of Esse3 (see the guidelines below):

a. if you are transferring from a Master’s degree program in classes LM-41, LM-46, or LM-42, or from a related degree program, attach:

•             the syllabus for the course(s) attended or the exam(s) taken as part of a degree program;

a signed self-declaration (which may be downloadable from the website of the university where the courses were attended or the exams taken) stating: enrollment status as of the date of publication of Ministerial Decree no. 941 of 10 July 2026; the university of enrollment; the degree program of enrollment, including the specific degree class (the program must fall within those listed in Art. 1, paragraph 1, or Art. 9 of Ministerial Decree no. 941 of 10 July 2026: www.mur.gov.it/it/atti-e-normativa/decreto-ministeriale-n-941-del-10-7-2026); the name of any exam(s) taken for which recognition of attendance is requested within the scope of the courses included in the "filter semester"; the number of ECTS credits (CFU) for each course; confirmation of course attendance; and, if the exam was passed, the date of the exam and the grade obtained;

if you are coming from the "Semestre filtro" (preparatory semester) of the previous academic year, attach:

•             a signed self-declaration (which may be downloadable from the website of the university where you attended the preparatory semester in the 2025/26 academic year) stating the university where the attendance took place;

If you are transferring from a related degree program that does not require mandatory attendance, or if you are unable to provide a certificate of attendance from the university, you may use the self-declaration form available on the "Self-declarations" page of our website.

The deadline for submitting the exemption request, including any required documentation, is August 6, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

The outcome of the request (approval or rejection) will be published on this page.

Classes will be held both in person and online via Microsoft Teams; attendance will be tracked for both formats, and classes will run from September 1 to November 20, 2026.

Classes will be divided into two groups based on the alphabetical order of last names starting with AL and MZ; students may not switch from one group to the other.

Here are two useful tools to help you prepare for the filter semester.

1. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are available at www.semestreaperto-medodovet.it to help students improve their preparation before attending the filter semester leading to admission to degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery, School of Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine.
   The MOOCs, which are also available on the CRUI platform, consist of interactive video courses based on the secondary school curricula for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with content developed by university lecturers who are experts in university guidance and admissions. The video lectures are supplemented by additional tools for self-study and targeted exercises that enable students to assess their level of understanding of the topics covered and to gradually consolidate their knowledge.
   Exercises relating to the upper secondary school syllabuses for Chemistry, Physics and Biology are also already available on the platform; these tools are designed to enable you to self-assess and consolidate your knowledge before the start of the Filter Semester.
   Once lectures begin, targeted exercises on the various teaching modules of each subject’s syllabus will first be made available, followed by mock exams scheduled for the end of the Open Semester.

2. As part of the POT MOOD (MedOdontoOrientaDomain) project, the University of Brescia, together with other Italian universities, is offering free asynchronous lessons in preparation for the filter semester, to review in the summer and be accompanied during the course.
