Training programme

The training programme is based on a structured plan of educational activities designed to complement PhD students’ specialised expertise with transversal skills that are not normally covered in degree programmes. 
The educational offer consists of two main components.

Transversal training activities, also shared with other PhD programmes at the University, including:

  • language development through General English, Academic English Writing and Public Speaking modules;
  • research management and knowledge of European and international funding schemes, including seminars organised in collaboration with APRE – the Agency for the
    Promotion of European Research;
  • valorisation and dissemination of research results, with activities dedicated to scientific communication, intellectual property and open science;
  • principles of ethics, research integrity and gender equality.

Advanced specialised courses, aligned with the research areas of the PhD programme and covering different fields of Information Engineering, including:

  • advanced mathematical, statistical and modelling methods;
  • computer science, artificial intelligence and data management;
  • systems for the digital transition and ICT applications technologies for advanced materials, sensing and
    photonics sustainability, energy and technology economics.
     

The training programme includes periodic reviews of the activities carried out, together with opportunities for discussion and feedback among the PhD student, supervisor and Academic Board.
Teaching activities are also supported by a dedicated learning environment on the University’s Moodle platform, used for course management, sharing teaching materials and organising training activities.
