Educational goals

The goal of the DICACIM doctoral course is to train highly qualified individuals capable of operating with scientific rigor, critical sense, and operational skills in a multidisciplinary context. The course develops in doctoral students integrated scientific, technical, and human skills needed to address complex challenges with innovative, sustainable, and culturally aware approaches, contributing to the improvement of knowledge, quality of life, and the environment.

The training prepares both researchers destined for academic careers and professionals capable of working at the highest levels in the fields of civil and environmental engineering, and sustainable architecture and agriculture. The Ph.D. emphasizes effective communication, management of complex projects, interdisciplinary work, and collaboration with public and private stakeholders, while adhering to high ethical and regulatory standards.

The Course promotes practical experience through participation in applied research projects and collaborations with companies, public bodies, academic institutions, nonprofit organizations and international entities, strengthening the integration between education and the world of work.

Special attention is paid to the development of soft skills, which are considered fundamental for the professional and personal growth of doctoral students. The course fosters leadership, the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, management of responsibilities and communication, both in the technical-scientific field and in dissemination to non-specialist audiences.

The common educational objectives of the Ph.D. can be summarized as follows:

  • To provide integrated scientific, technical and human skills to respond innovatively and sustainably to local and global challenges.
  • To train researchers for academic careers and professionals for the productive and institutional world.
  • Promote communication, complex project management and collaboration with public and private stakeholders.
  • Provide hands-on experience through research projects and cooperation with the outside world.
